Introduction PPE stands for Personal Protective Equipment. Basically, all the wearables required in a workplace to ensure the safety of the worker from any sort or kind of dangers, threats and risks are overall named as Personal Protective Equipment or in short term simply PPE. To understand this more clearly we can quote the example of firefighters. They work in super risky situations and wears special suits usually made of flame retardant fabrics or clothing lies in the category of PPE. So, any wearable stuff that is required for certain tasks and works for the workers’ safety is called PPE. Importance Every organization has this responsibility to provide their workers with the best of PPE to their employees for the assigned jobs. To understand the uses of PPE in any work environment, let us discuss its uses in brief. There are different types of PPE available in the market to keep the wearer protected from the hazards involved in different jobs including but not restricted to rescue and relief services, firefighting, construction, welding, steel manufacturing, oil-rigging, power generation, automobile manufacturing, chemical gases, etc. Multiple gears are used depending upon the use in the industry. Respiratory protection refers to equipment ranging from breathing aid, respirators through hoods, face respirators and mask respirators. The equipment is used in the chemical industry, oil rigging, rescue services, and other similar industries. Eye protection, in the form of goggles and safety glasses, is a must for workers who work in an environment where eyes are exposed to flames, gases, cuts, and splashes during welding and lab work. Body protection is required for workers engaged in jobs wherein they are exposed to extreme weather conditions, pedestrian or vehicle traffic, temperature, heat, fire and flames, metal and chemical splashes, contamination, and dust. For workers exposed to heat, fire, flame or high temperatures, Fire-Resistant wear or Flame –Retardant fabric is required to keep them safe from any kind of physical injury or even death.
